FileMaker Server - Files Won't Open

Here's the situation, need some ideas.

Server: FileMaker Server 10 - Hosting Service
Clients: FileMaker 9 Advanced, FileMaker 10 Advanced
CPU: Windows XP SP3, Mac OSX 10.4

On Windows: FMP 9 - connects fine
On Mac OSX: FMP 10 - connects fine

    but if I flip it...

On Windows: FMP 10 - connects fine
On Mac OSX: FMP 9 - 'File cannot be opened. Either host is unavailable...yada yada, or the file is unavailable'

Any ideas why the Mac would connect fine using 10 and not 9?

Re: FileMaker Server - Files Won't Open

    a) True for multiple Macs?

    b) True after reinstall of FmPro 9?

    c) You updated to 9.0v3 or is this the out-of-the-box 9.0v1?

    EDITED TO ADD:

    d) Are you going File menu, Open Remote, {pick host from Favorite Hosts}, pick filename from list of hosted files? Or are you attempting to open the file in some other fashion? If in some other fashion please describe in detail how you are trying to open the hosted file.

Re: FileMaker Server - Files Won't Open

FMP10 and 9 both installed on that same mac or different macs? If it were different then I'd say check connection to server, ping etc, make sure you can actually see the server. If both on same computer then that's a bit weird. Like Hunter said, it might depend on how you connect to it, whether it be launcher file, favorite host, local host, link, whatever...

Check # of allowed connections on server? It's not just a fluke that you always connect on the FMP9 mac when max client hit ? (stranger things have happened).

    a) Don't have another mac to test on. I sent you PM...Would you mind testing 9 for me?

    b) Yes

    c) Yes, I updated to 9.0v3.

    d) File / Open Remote...manually typing in the address of the hosted file / or Favorite Host...same result.

    Same Mac.

Still trying to figure out how to check the # of allowed connections. I tried connecting to the server to open the admin console, but it won't let me in. I kind of expected that, because it is a hosting service...and a shared server.

Re: FileMaker Server - Files Won't Open

Glad to see this post as i'm having the same problem after a recent business relocation.
OS X 10.5 server with fm 9 server.
Normally we accessed everything on LAN, but for a couple of months need to access remotely.
Open remote (favorites->ip address) with FM9 clients cant see anything. FM 10 clients can see it as it should be (tested on 2 locations).
I dont know much about os x server, or fm server, but we have an overextended network person and i'm at a loss. Any clues would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Just thought i would update with possible cause/solution that worked for us.

It might have something to do with SSL enabled on the server. With SSL off, FM9 is able to see the server again.

Re: FileMaker Server - Files Won't Open

Do you have the latest update for FileMaker? You should be on 9.0v3. I believe the v3 update had an SSL fix in it.

I narrowed my problem down to files not showing from a particular server. But when I started testing things out this morning, it worked fine. The last thing I did yesterday was reinstall FM and the update...tested a connection to another server (which worked...but to my original server it was a no go).
