FMP 16: Can portals have color?

I essentially went from using v11 on a daily basis to v16 in one giant step (with a couple of months of v15 inbetween). I recall being able to apply a color to portals in v11, whereas I am not able to in v16.

    What am I missing?

    Thank you in advance.

Go to the Inspector and click the Appearance tab. Select the portal. Choose whether you want to color the portal itself or the portal rows. Select the fill type and color.

I have tried the v11 method (right-click the obect and choose fill color) -- and the way you described above. Even the method you described is not applying color to the portal. It shows the color I chose (or choose)in the Appearance Tab yet no color is applied.

I am trying to "obscure" a button and make the user select "Yes" when posed with "Are you sure you want to do that?" question. In the past I would have used Al Hunter's "hidden portal trick," but as I was playing around I found another method using a "Slide control."

Make sure the Portal Row color is not obscuring your portal color.

Also look at the Hide Object When control in the Inspector (new since V14) which is a much better way to hide objects.

I have used the "Hide Object" before, but never on a portal like this. But it works perfectly and achieves my goal! Thanks for the push in that direction!

Update: In v16 you have to choose "Portal: Row" from the Appearance Tab (which is now an icon of a "palette" and not the word Appearance...) in order to give the entire portal color. It is in this same area where you can choose to alternate portal row colors (in the past you accomplished this with right-click and choose "Portal Setup."

Yes that is the same as in v15. But very different from v11 as you might expect (five versions ago and a file format change).
