    Filtering in portals problem

    Hello,

    I need some help filtering in a portal
    I have 2 portals
    1st shows the credits and debits for a booking all from table cashbook.
    2nd (1 line) shows the totals of the credits and debits.

    Portal 1 setup: filter/specify is: If ( Cashbook::currency="$" ; Cashbook::amount_credit; 0 ) and works fine.

    I really need to filter out the debits at the same time. (I'll add another portal for the s later)

    cashbook::currency is either , $ or blank

    Portal 2 setup: I have another field: cashbook::total_credits_debits, can you tell me the calculation to add to that field? I tried (cashbook::total_credits - cashbook::total_debits) but that failed.

    Level beginner + (maybe)

    Henry

    Hi perhaps I don't understand what you mean but you need one portal with the details of debit and credit and another portal with just one line who summarize the total of each portal one field.?
    Do you use the same portal so the same table with a summary field total of debit and another summary field with total of credit. Then just create a portal based on the same table of the first portal. Set It to 1 row and put your two summary fields in this row.
    Is this what you want ?

    Not quite. In fact I think I need a nested IF statement in the Filter/specify calculation box. I did put this there:
    If(Cashbook::currency="$"; Cashbook::amount_debit; If (Cashbook::currency="$"; Cashbook::amount_credit; 0))

    But the first If is parsed and the second isn't. so there may be a syntax error there. I cant see it.

    That obviously won't work for a number of reasons. For one you're checking both times for Cashbook::currency="$", unless its a typo.
    Remember for a portal filter you are trying to present a calculation that evaluates to true. When it evaluates to true you see the values you want in the portal-based on the relationship between the 2 tables.
    I didn't initially respond to you post because I still don't understand what you are trying to do, and what results you expect. Nor do I know the relationships you set up between the tables.
    A better explanation, a screenshot, or even a sample file with some data would help.

    Thanks for your replies. I found out from another expert the answer. the formula is just the search term as in my case it's simply cashbook::currency="$" which works fine.

    Which is not what it says in FMP Help under "Filtering records in portals' it says use the formula If (LineItems::Quantity < 1; 0; 1)
