    If yes selected show a field, if no selected do not...

    Hello all.
    I have a series of fields. Each has a 'yes' or 'no' based on a simple value list.
    If the user chooses yes, i want another field to show up right next to it. If no, then nothing should show up.

    At the very least i would like it to skip the next field if the user selects no.

    Finally, this has to work automatically (from a calculation of somesort).

    Does this make sense?
    Thank you all so much!

    Off the top I'm thinking different layouts. May be Text same color as background. Just a couple of suggestions.

    Re: If yes selected show a field, if no selected do not...

    you can do this with portals.

    based on the record ID and the value list, make a calc

    match1=ID&your_field
    and a match field:

    match2=calc=ID&"yes"

    make a self join relationship between the two fields.

    draw a one-row portal in the layout based on that relationship. set the portal to the background color. Put the desired ::field in it. If "yes" then it'll show.

    Re: If yes selected show a field, if no selected do not...

    go to www.databasepros.com and locate the sample called visible.fp5.

    gives a neat example (and more!) of the above principle of showing a field in a portal based on a self join relationship.

    you can pry it open and see how it works.

    if you wish, i can send you a sample of what I described in my first post. send me a pm with your email addres then.

    when i click new record in the portal it deletes only one record instead of all records...that means the portal does not clear the old record values when i click the new record button...the portal records are displayed from the master table..

    Please explain your problem more fully.

    I think what you are saying that when you add a new record, the portal still shows the previous related records. This usually means that the relationship is incorrectly defined.

    Please describe the two tables more completely, and be very specific about the relationship between them.
